Phoenix FM continues to champion local initiatives by giving a platform to inspiring community projects. In a recent feature, the station highlighted a football club formed not just for fun, but to raise funds for important causes. By promoting grassroots efforts like this, Phoenix FM helps bring people together, supporting both local sports and charitable giving.
October 10 is World Mental Health Day but we didn’t do anything special to celebrate it as we aim to get mental health news and interviews on air every week of the year. Besides, all of our interviews are special!
Last week we featured John King, who is Mental Health Ambassador with the newly-formed Cedar Avenue FC.
John came into Jo Bailey’s Drive show to talk about the club, which he created with a friends group.
Cedar Avenue FC’s aim is to raise money for different charities, whilst enjoying football without the pressures of being in a league.
The club also aims to raise mental health awareness and players in the team give each other suppor too.
Club members will be in Basildon on Saturday 28 October walking in their best fancy dress in aid of CALM, the Campaign Against Living Miserably which highlights and aims to prevent the deaths of 125 people per week.
The club are planning their first fundraising match the following weekend, on Sunday 5 November, in aid of TRUK Listens.
