Marillac

Through community engagement and on-air support, Phoenix FM is playing a key role in raising awareness and funds for a specialised bike at Marillac Neurological Care Centre. By giving a voice to local fundraising efforts, the station connects listeners with meaningful ways to support those in need.

Fundraising efforts to buy special bike for care centre
18 January 2025
January is always a great time to refocus on your fitness goals and lose some Christmas weight. For the record, I failed Dry January on Saturday the 11th, so not a bad start to the year for me.

Local organisations can use this as a good way to focus on fundraising efforts too. Liesbeth Newman from the Brentwood’s Marillac Neurological Care Centre came in to talk about Mobility Month, which is taking place throughout January.

Liesbeth is the Fundraising and Partnerships Manager, and talked about how people can get running, walking – or any activity you enjoy to help raise funds for a RT300 bike.

This is more than a regular exercise bike – it incorporates functional electrical stimulation (FES), enabling people with paralysis regain some movement, with additional benefits such as improved mobility, confidence, independence and health.

The Marillac is also hosting a 5km woodland hike in Warley on Sunday 26 January if you’re looking to take part in a more structured activity to help out.

If you do make it through Dry January – or if you don’t – we’re also helping to organise another Marillac fundraiser – a wine tasting evening at Marco’s on Friday 28 February.

You can hear Liesbeth’s interview with Mike Porter again at phoenixfm.com – and you can also see how you can help the Marillac with its fundraising at marillac.co.uk.
